Founder
She Matters was founded by Christina Moreno, an international lawyer who overcame poverty as a teenage mother in the United States. After seeing that female newcomers were not fully supported in their host countries, she left her career in law and dedicated her life to supporting these extraordinary women with regaining control of their lives. She is also the CEO of She Matters B.V., a social enterprise recruitment agency.
Prior to establishing She Matters, Ms Moreno worked as a legal associate and head of communications at an international legal partnership specialising in on-the-ground international humanitarian and human rights issues in conflict affected areas. She was also with HiiL Innovating Justice where she worked to improved access to justice across the globe.
Ms Moreno is a Thomson Reuter’s Foundation Trust Conference Scholar for her work on women’s empowerment, and was named among the Top 10 Persons to Watch for Justice Innovation in 2018 by HiiL’s Innovating Justice Accelerator.
In 2019, she was among four recipients of the Feminin Pluriel Global Award 2019 for her ‘talent, boldness and engagement.’
‘Through my work at She Matters, I’m the most fulfilled I’ve ever been in my life. I’m one of the lucky few who gets to live her passion by supporting some of the strongest women I know. What a gift! Special thank you to our wonderful team of volunteers, donors and corporate partners for believing in me and our mission. It’s through your efforts that we’re able to make a difference.’
