Head of Sustainability

Our client, an innovative, purpose-driven company with over 150 years of heritage, is searching for their next Head of Sustainability to lead the charge in driving their ambitious environmental and social initiatives, integrating sustainability into every aspect of the business, and ensuring they continue to set the industry standard for responsible practices. In this role, you’ll work closely with senior leadership to define and implement sustainability initiatives that align with the company’s goals while leading a dedicated sustainability team. You’ll also represent the company as a thought leader on sustainability and drive key cross-functional initiatives to meet ambitious targets.

What You’ll Contribute:  

• Define and implement sustainability initiatives that align with the company’s established sustainability goals. You’ll set measurable goals, identify key opportunities, and address challenges to enhance the company’s environmental and social impact.
• Lead and mentor the sustainability team, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability. You'll support the growth of your team while ensuring a shared commitment to the company’s sustainability vision.
• Partner with other departments—such as R&D, marketing, and supply chain—to ensure sustainability initiatives are seamlessly embedded into daily operations and future innovations.
• Represent the company as a thought leader on sustainability at industry events, conferences, and in engagements with stakeholders, including regulators, NGOs, and customers. You’ll play a crucial role in maintaining external credibility and alignment with global sustainability goals.
• Develop and oversee sustainability metrics to track performance and progress. Take ownership of certifications such as B Corp recertification and ensure compliance with regulations and achievement of reduction targets.
• Champion innovation in sustainable products and services by staying ahead of trends and applying emerging best practices across the business.
• Lead efforts to assess and mitigate environmental risks, ensuring the company is well-prepared to address challenges like resource scarcity, climate change, and regulatory requirements.

Your Strengths and Experience:  

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree inEnvironmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, or a related field. An MBA with a sustainability focus is a plus.
• You bring 7-10 years of experience in sustainability or environmental management, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role. You’ve got a proven track record of leading teams, managing projects, and delivering sustainability initiatives in a corporate setting.
• You’re a skilled communicator and leader, capable of influencing across departments and fostering a culture of sustainability throughout the organisation.
• Experience with sustainability-related certifications and standards such as B Corp, SEDEX,SBTi, and CSRD. You also have a solid understanding of commercial and supply chain processes.
• Willingness to travel occasionally, including visits to the company’s factory in Poland, as well as representing the company at external events.
• You are fluent in English, (basic) Dutch is a plus.
